What offices are there in Kista?

Kista is one of Stockholm’s most distinct office markets outside the inner city. There are many large office buildings here, and therefore often good opportunities for companies that need large, contiguous spaces. Tech, telecoms and IT still shape the area.

There are both modern offices and older buildings, where the rent can be considerably lower. Kista is a good fit when you need a lot of space for your money, or when many of your staff live north of Stockholm.

Which companies are in Kista?

Many of the companies in Kista work in IT, electronics and telecoms. Ericsson has its global headquarters on Torshamnsgatan, and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) is also here. Kistamässan hosts events for up to 3,000 people.

Kista belongs to the Järva district area, where information and communication was the most common industry in 2024. Kista Science City has the most jobs in Järva.

How do you get there?

  • Metro: the blue line takes 17 minutes from T-Centralen to Kista. From December 2027 it will also continue from Akalla to Barkarby.
  • Commuter train: 13 minutes from Stockholm City to Helenelund. From there it is a 15-minute walk into Kista.
  • Light rail (Tvärbanan): a new line from Bromma Airport via Kista centrum to Helenelund, with connections to the blue line and the commuter train. According to the preliminary timetable, it will reach Kista in 2029.

What should you bear in mind?

Kista is on its way to becoming a mixed-use district, with housing and services between the office buildings. This shows in several ways:

  • Older offices are being converted

The office block Skalholt 1 at Jan Stenbecks torg is being converted into 530–730 homes, a hotel and premises for services. At Isafjordsgatan and Kistagången, Vasakronan is planning new office buildings and extensions to existing ones, because the old buildings do not meet today’s requirements for offices. Housing and a preschool are also planned there. The detailed development plans have been adopted and can no longer be appealed.

  • New housing

In northern Kista, the new district of Kista äng is taking shape, with about 1,800 homes.

  • Construction work

Preparatory works for the light rail are under way along Kistagången until the turn of the year 2026/2027.

  • The universities are moving

KTH and Stockholm University are moving their teaching out of Kista.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kista still an attractive office location?
For the right company, yes. Especially in tech, and when price, large spaces and being close to northern Stockholm matter most. But Kista cannot compete with City for urban life and prestige.
Are there many vacant premises in Kista?
Supply is usually relatively large compared with many other areas. That gives you more alternatives to choose from and often a stronger position in relation to the landlord.
Which part of Kista should we choose?
Being close to the metro and Kista Galleria matters more than you might think. A walk that is a few minutes longer makes a big difference to how staff experience the location.
When will the light rail reach Kista?
According to Region Stockholm's preliminary timetable, the light rail will run to Ursviks torg from 2028 and on via Kista centrum to Helenelund from 2029. The extension was paused in the summer of 2024 and resumed after a new decision by the regional council in February 2026.
Are KTH and Stockholm University still in Kista?
Only partly. KTH is moving its teaching in Kista to KTH Campus. The move started in 2025, and from 2027 KTH will continue its remaining activities in Kista under new arrangements, including in the Electrum semiconductor laboratory. Stockholm University is moving its Department of Computer and Systems Sciences to Frescati, according to a preliminary timetable in 2027.
